Alice Bag is currently a teacher and was the former lead singer of L.A. Punk Band, The Bags. They were in the original Decline of Western Civilization, and the tore shit up. She’s a total inspiration to me because she “was there” and she’s not all “Punk died when I stopped listening to it”, which is a trap that many old curmudgeons fall into. She still goes to shows and plays out and her blog is a treat to read. The best part of it all is that’s she’s not all “faded glory” and it’s not just a rumination of her youth, she references “the old days” and tells stories just because people ask her to. She’s very excited about what’s happening now and doesnt see much difference between now and then.
Her other site has an incredible series of interviews with the Women of L.A. Punk such as Dinah Cancer of 45 Grave, Pleasant Gehman, and Philomena Bessy co-editor of seminal punk mag “Slash”.
Anyway read up its all D.I.Y. inspiration at it’s finest.
