Website: StreetArt Blows

Keep Your Art to Yourself Next Time! was printed on some stickers I saw in Williamsburg recently…and the url streetartblows.com at the bottom. A crappy website, sure but it’s got some strong opinions that I think are worth their weight in gold.
Too much energy is being spent on making vinyl toys and painting on sneakers instead of actually innovating on the street. Street art should at least be outside. Stop selling us snake oil and give us the real shit.
Check it out and let me know what you think.

While I dont hate on all “street art” the blurb on that site captures some of my feelings. Maybe its the classic ‘grass root vandals’ vs ‘design school art-fags’ and at the end of the day its amusing that some of us writers are very critical to something similiar to what we do.
I am just glad it was said. I feel like that often, but know that part of it is my own self loathing. I think he is right.
I think this guy or whoever takes it all to serious… isn’t the basic of doing stuff (graf or whatever) the fun you have doing it?
I think it’s typical graf-talk: you suck, I rule.
And don’t start me about tags, ‘cause most of them suck. Only a few (really: you can count them on 1 hand) are worth looking at.
” let’s not tell kids shit is good when its not.”....that apples to alot more than street art.
One thing I agree with about that site is that in graffiti quality is important and if you aren’t good you get called out/gone over/no respect. Street art just doesn’t seem to have that, so lots of mediocre work gets accepted.
