OG Vinyl Killer Klutch is ramping up for Vinyl Killers 3 in Portland and they’re having a big old fashioned sticker contest to get things rollin’
WHAT:Vinyl Killers 3 has received a grant from the City Of Portland to promote the show. Accepting this grant has compromised nothing. I was up front about VK being a graffiti influenced show, and detailed in the application that the money would be used for stickers.
The contest is intended to give others a chance to participate by designing a VK3 sticker rather than do them all myself. Last week I printed up 1000 stickers that were distributed on the streets of San Francisco and during the Hotel Des Arts opening for Painted Rooms 4.0. Now I want to print another 3000 to distribute via magazine insertions and giveaways.
The grand prize?
Not much really. Vinyl Killers is a grassroots effort that exists mainly through my hard work and commitment to the show. My goal is to someday soon have VK become self-supporting but for now everything is funded from my already empty pockets. Therefore I have no cool gear or prizes to offer.
The real prize is having your design used to promote a cool show that you are stoked to be a part of.
Three winners will be selected and each receives 200 of the stickers, whatever t-shirts I have around, and a mystery art prize from Tim Hall.
Dave from PEEL zine is sponsoring a back print on the stickers with the artist’s website.
The winning designs and artists will be featured on the VK site.
WHY:The intent is simply to distribute as many stickers as possible to help build name recognition for Vinyl Killers and to create awareness that VK3 is happening in late in October.
If you have to ask why stickers are so cool then you are obviously a kook and are immediately disqualified from submitting.
HOW:Design a 3-color sticker and submit to the email below.
The sticker specs are:
4” tall x 3.5” wide – design can be either orientation
3 colors – light blue, dark blue, and chocolate brown on white vinyl.
300-600 DPI
.eps files
Must be color separated in layers
WHEN:Contest deadline – August 25th, 2005
Winners announced – August 31st, 2005
Stickers printed – September 1st, 2005

WHO:Anyone can enter. You do not have to have been in a VK show past or future to submit.
The final selections will be made by Klutch at Vinyl Killers, Andy at Diesel Fuel Prints, and Dave at PEEL zine.
