HARD TIMES 2 is a follow up to the benefit Art Show and party organized by halcyon and artist/curator Damion Silver in Feb. ‘05 as a response to the southeast asian Tsunami
The concept is simple:
in the face of some truly messed up shit, even those without a lot can help those with even less if they work together – so this project provides artists a way to use their talents to raise funds they would not otherwise be able to donate, and nudges art fans into giving just a little more than pocket change. In the meantime we promote art and have an excuse to party!
how it works
Real easy. Artists donate pieces. We hang them at halcyon the shop and at Gallerie. We organize sponsors to help pay for and proomote the event so that 100% of the proceeds can go straight to the charity. We throw a big open bar party with killer DJs at which all the art is for sale for the one low price of $100 per item. People rush to the party, fists full of Benjamins, fighting like it’s the Barney’s warehouse sale to get first pick of the best art. A lot of money is raised. A lot of great art is sold for less than it’s worth. A lot of drinks are consumed. We all have fun. Then we write one of those big novelty checks to some local gulf organizations that aid artists and musicians.

Sponsorship
if you’d like to help make HARD TIMES 2 a success and have no artistic
talent like me but lots of cash (not like me) then please get in touch:
HARDTIMES2@halcyonline.com
we are seeking presenting sponsors, media sponsors, goodie bag sponsors and
beverage sponsors as well as volunteers to staff the bar, door, security
and to help install and uninstall the show
how to submit work
Submission Deadline is 10.19
All mediums are ok – paintings, drawings, posters, sculpture, vinyl toys,
customized objects, hand silkscreened T-shirts, posters, etc.
Keep in mind that all works will be sold for $100 and the idea is the buyer
should be getting a bargain, not paying a premium becuase it’s for charity,
so whatever it is, it needs to be worth over $100. We want to sell every
piece in the show, so make it something good!
Submissions need not be made especially for the show, nor do they need ot
be exclusive if they are multiples. There is no unifying theme required for
the work.
Submissions must come ready to hang or display with the inclusion of
hardware.
Artists must deliver by hand or ship works at their own cost.
Work that does not sell may be retrieved by the artist at the end of the
event or with three days thereafter. Upon request, for non-local artists
only, we will return work by mail at the artists sole expense. Additional
S&H fees may apply.
The curators of the show reserve the right to reject submissions for any
reason including, but not limited to inappropriate content, inappropriate
(under)value, inablity to display due to format/size, or you call that art?
If you are unsure if your submission is appropriate, please email a jpeg to
