Hey I just got this email from Dave at Peelzine. Hats off to him for trying a new way to make Peelzine happen than relying on the old sponsorship hustle that can often have you going door to door to companies that may not share the same beliefs as you or getting sponsors that have a “creative” approach to paying bills on time.
Artist Friends of PEEL,
In order to reduce our dependence on corporate $pon$or$ PEEL magazine is printing an artist-supported virtual blackbook in our next issue. This offer is available to artists only, not to corporations. Here’s the scoop: $32 = a 2.5” x 2.5” sticker in the blackbook.
The deadline is January 31, so, first come. first serve.Click the link for details: http://www.peelmagazine.com/blkbk.html
We know this may be unpopular with some, as we’ve already received negative feedback about it. Any comments will be noted and balanced against the freedom from total dependence on corporate sponsors.
I was a bit confused by the “virtual” thing but Dave let me know:
“By virtual we just mean they will be emailed images of stickers actually printed in the next issue. “
OP-ED from Abe: “So to all of you who may get salty because you think you should be in the black book for free , you have every right not to participate. Best of luck on your future endevors.”
