Up & coming artist Daniel Anthony St. George II, also known as AZStar78, presents his newest body of work in his solo exhibit, Unsung. The show will be exhibited at halcyon the shop in Dumbo, Brooklyn from September 15th through October 11th, 2006. This is his second show at halcyon the shop, a follow up to his Whole Milk in 2003.
Unsung is a continued progression from his February 2006 solo show in New York City, Odds and Ends, at Orchard Street Gallery, which featured a large collection of pen-and-ink drawings. St. George’s work for Unsung will consist of new drawings on vintage sheet music. The pieces are fashioned on found paper, creating a romantic and interesting duality. His contemporary pieces project an eerie, yet calm feeling and parallels the artist’s feelings on relationships, life and death.
Most of St. George’s work is autobiographical, demonstrating his fearless admission of his own failures and heartaches. When asked to comment, St. George said about the new work, “I wanted something that was nostalgic and would make people reflect on life and their own weaknesses. I admit that my work is not all sunshine and rainbows, but I think even the darkest [piece] has a silver lining; Out of all suffering comes a lesson learned.”
Many consider AZStar to be somewhat of a transient, previously living in Miami, New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. He currently resides in San Francisco.
halcyon the shop is open Tuesday, Friday 12-9; Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday 12-8; Sunday 12-6, & Monday by appointment only.
