Invisible NYC is proud to host a solo exhibit by mixed-media artist, Hugh Gran. Mr. Gran, born and raised in New York City, received a BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design in 1996. Although currently on sabbatical, he teaches at both Parsons School of Design and New York University.
A prolific artist, Mr. Gran works in illustration, design, photography, video, and motion graphics. His various media have been included in exhibits across the globe including Japan and New York City. Mr. Gran’s work has also been published in such books as “Disposable: Skateboard Art Book”, “I_NY: Street Art”, and “Peace Signs: The Anti-War Movement Illustrated”.

For his exhibit at Invisible NYC, Mr. Gran will combine his love for urban mural/street art and propaganda poster art in a retrospective of new, or never before seen finished work. The result is an enveloping installation of slogans and imagery. This exhibit highlights Mr. Gran’s lyrical sketches and drawings of lower Manhattan’s iconic imagery with graffiti inspired abstract paintings. It also includes – what may be Mr. Gran’s most recognizable and highly sought after work – his Russian and German inspired highly politicized poster art, as well a video installation.

When asked about the basis for some of his more direct and literal political subject matter Mr. Gran states:
the controversy surrounding G W Bush’s Presidency in 2000 politicized me, and I found a political voice in my art; I started to work with independent news groups dedicated to reporting a non corporate view of the news like the Independent Media Center of New York, DCTV, FSTV, MNN, Democracy Now, and Konscious Media (my own production company).

This exhibition, while seeped in relevant and intense subject matter is a finely executed and visually stimulating installation of cutting-edge, contemporary art.
The exhibit,?-2006-?, will run from September 15th to October 7th, Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 8:00 PM. The opening reception will be on Friday, September 15th from 7:00-9:00 PM.
