SHOK1
Back in 1983, SHOK1’s art teacher banned him from doing Art O’level,
not long before he was allegedly expelled for selling drugs to another
pupil. SHOK1 had found life drawing incredibly boring and refused to
behave.
Having made his name in the global graffiti scene, these days SHOK1 is
still busily ignoring rules and boundaries and making work across a
wide variety of cultures and media.
He has been drawing pretty much his entire life and is now working
towards more spontaneous, conceptual works.
We have no idea how the teacher turned out.
Stephan Doitschinoff A.K.A. Calma, is a Brazilian self-taught painter
and illustrator.
Looking to Brazilian folklore and Afro-Brazilian religious imagery, as
well as Alchemical and Pagan symbols, Stephan has created his own
unique language and style which embraces his influences
and lets them evolve naturally into his own autobiographical work by
combining them
with his roots in urban art and Pop culture.
Stephan also carries his voice into other arenas as an illustrator for
bands’ album covers, books,
magazines and print ads, as well as working with fashion companies to
design limited edition clothing lines.
His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in Sao Paulo, Rio
de Janeiro,Los Angeles and New York.
